Size a vertical machining center for the workpiece, fixture and required tool movements together. Travel figures are only the starting point: the supplier should confirm load, clearance, tooling and the proposed machining process.

Technical quotationCheck the usable machining space
Send the largest representative part drawing and the proposed fixture concept. Ask the supplier to review table dimensions, travel, load and tool access as a complete setup. A part fitting on the table does not by itself confirm that every required feature can be machined in the intended setup.
Match the configuration to the process
Identify material grades and the main milling, drilling and finishing operations. Ask how the proposed spindle, tool interface and tool magazine support those operations. Distinguish requirements that are essential at delivery from options that are only for a possible future application.
Include the supporting equipment
Clarify coolant, chip handling, probing, workholding and any automation in the quotation. Ask for the electrical and air requirements, delivery dimensions and floor preparation requirements. Establish who supplies fixtures, tools, programming, lifting and installation before comparing commercial totals.
Set measurable acceptance criteria
Agree a representative component or test plan with the supplier. State the required inspection method and which documents will be provided at handover. If the offer includes a cycle-time estimate, ask for its tooling, program, loading and inspection assumptions so it can be compared fairly.
